Commodore's Musings February 2018

Published 14:51 on 2 Feb 2018

Happy New Year everyone I am sure that it is too late to say that but I have not seen you all so just bear with me.

The Calendar is due to go to the printers imminently and is expected to be available for distribution at the AGM. I hope that many of you will come to the AGM on Sunday 25th February, as it is your opportunity to scrutinise the committee and help define the agenda for the future. We will be presenting the plan for fund raising as well as the reports on all of the club activities.

A key topic of the AGM is the voting in of committee members, we have three vital roles vacant for the forthcoming year and so if any of the following interests you please get in touch:

  • Treasurer Sue Pryde has undertaken this role for the past 4 years and has stood down. We thank her for her diligence and assistance in undertaking this role so effectively. If you are interested you can ask Sue or myself what is involved, but the basics are: undertaking the bookkeeping, paying key suppliers and advising the committee on financial matters.
  • Rear Commodore Social this role has been vacant for the past year, the task is running the catering and social functions such as the Cocktail party, Summer Barbeque and Christmas lunch as well as Tuesday evening suppers.
  • Bar Secretary again this role has been vacant and Paul Browning as stood in to help in the short term, for which we all owe him our thanks. The Bar sec reports to Rear Commodore social and runs the bar, maintains stock and ensures that we have staff where required at all the events as well as private functions.
Again if you would like to learn more please get in touch. Without these vital roles filled the club just does not function.

In other news

Mel Hardman is looking to invite our Friends from CVP and YICF to Thames sailing club in late June, please watch out for details.

Kingston Riverside Plan we continue to understand more about these proposals for developments alongside the Riverbank from Canbury Gardens to Harts Boatyard. The Club will no doubt respond, but that does not stop any of you putting your opinions forward.

It has been noted with interest that Ossie Stewart and Syndicate have purchased Carina, so we wish them well in getting her back into commission.

We look forward to a successful and productive 2018, and I look forward to seeing you all on the water in the spring
