Thames Sailing Club Principles

Thames Sailing Club was founded in 1870 and is one of the oldest inland sailing clubs in the country. We are the home of the historic Thames 'A' Raters with a history founded on innovation and competition. Our mission is to build upon that heritage through the provision of:

  • A friendly environment for like-minded people to join together in the enjoyment of sailing, both racing and social, with appropriate facilities ashore and afloat.
  • Encouragement, training and coaching for all of the sailors in the club so that they can improve their skills and provide pathways for sailors to gain a wide range of experience.
  • Help to support and develop the Thames A Raters as the pinnacle of racing whether fleet or match racing.
  • High quality fleet racing in club promoted classes.
  • First class social programme for the benefit of both sailing and non sailing members.
  • A historic Club House which is available to members, their friends and visiting sailors to promote the sport of sailing and encourage good fellowship.

We incorporated as a Charity in 2020 and as such, the management of the racing and social programmes relies on ALL members making a voluntary contribution to support these activities.

It is also the policy of Thames Sailing Club that through their behaviour all participants, members, officials, parents, volunteers and employees show respect and understanding for each other, treat everyone equally and conduct themselves in a way that reflects the principles of the club and the sport.

Should there ever be the need to report a member's behaviour please contact any of the Flag Officers or the Club Welfare Officer, who will treat the matter with due tact and respect in accordance with the Club's Rules and Bye - Laws.
