Junior Regatta - Saturday 2nd September
Published 21:01 on 28 Aug 2017
This Saturday, 2nd September, is the Thames Sailing Club Junior Regatta for under 16's. It's great that we've been able to have a fantastic year of youth training, and this is the culmination of the junior season.
Ben May is at the helm for this event and has organised a great afternoon of fun on the water. The start time for events will be 2pm and we aim to finish on the water at about 5pm.
Please arrive at 1pm to help rig the boats and to complete registration as we will want to begin promptly at 2pm - but this will only be possible with enough help rigging...
The major part of the afternoon will be spent playing fun games on the water followed by a quick series of short races at the end to compete for the historic TSC cadet trophy - the Cadet Paddle. We will then have a BBQ (weather permitting).
It would be great to see as many as possible of the graduates from this year's kids courses participating. We also want to extend the invitation to any other kids at the club to join in with the fun games and for each TSC cadet member to bring a friend with them if they wish - no sailing experience necessary however all participants need to be confident swimmers and all will be required to wear buoyancy aids (the club has a limited number available).
The participants will get wet so swimming togs are recommended, wetsuits are ideal and a change of clothes essential for afterwards.
Non-members will need to signed in by their parents as guests, and sign a disclaimer form at registration.
This event is being run entirely by members and the parents of kids who sail at the club. It only works if all parents help out and it is a requirement that all children have a parent present throughout the event. We need volunteers to help out with the following activities: -
- rigging the boats at the start of the event and de-rigging at the end.
- registration of non-member participants (in the morning)
- catering / food shopping
- setting up and running the BBQ
- helping out in the kitchen
- safety boat drivers (must have PB level 2 qualification)
- safety boat seconds.
- First aiders (current first aid qualification required)
Hope to see you all on Saturday!
Regards,
Matt
