Commodore's Musings - March 2017

Published 14:26 on 10 Mar 2017

Dear Members,

There is a huge amount going on at the sailing club, and even more to come so we look forward to seeing you this weekend at the Work Party, Tuesday evenings and Sundays in the near future.

At the AGM I announced that there would be a slow revolution happening in the bar thanks to Dominic and Paul that is well underway. The next time that you come to the club you will see that we now have draft Lager on sale and a new till system. The till is electronic and will greatly assist the managing of stock and financial record keeping. We will therefore be able to reconcile takings with stock and ensure that we are running the bar efficiently. It is vital that everything is put through the till, so that we can then see stock levels remotely and place orders to ensure that we do not run out. There will be a bit of training required and that will be initially provided by Paul and myself. The important thing is just ask us, it is really simple.

There is much excitement in the Rater Fleet as Ulva's new owner, Matt H, is undertaking some repairs and is keen to get her on the water for the start of the Tuesday evening sailing, 4th April. Osprey, Caprice, Strait Dealer and Lady Jane are also targeting an early appearance so we are really looking forward to an exciting start to the season. The Fitting Out day is Saturday March the 18th with the first Sunday sailing on the 19th starting at the new time of 10am, followed by the New Season and New Members Welcome Lunch, the more the merrier. The Fitting Out day is seen as a day to get your boat out of the shed, checked over and ready to go sailing. This season we have scheduled during the summer months fun Sundays, this is when the focus is not on racing but on messing about on the water with the whole family there will be more on this closer to the time.

We have also just been told that the booking of places for Junior Bourne End will be undertaken at Upper Thames Sailing Club on the 19th March. I know that many of you would like your Children or Grand Children to attend and with that in mind you can also send an email to me and I will get your forms so that you can book them on the week. Please note that you can use our Toppers, Picos or Optimists, or your own craft, but you will need to arrange your own transport to get them to and from UTSC. These places go quickly so please tell me as soon as you can.

Finally, there is the Work Party this weekend it is basically an opportunity to clean up the site from the winter and get ready for the start of the new season. Please bring gardening tools, dirty clothes and enthusiasm and I am sure that we will get through a huge amount of work.

I look forward to seeing you all on and off the water.

Best wishes,

Miles Palmer
