Junior Regatta Sunday 22nd September

Published 20:53 on 11 Sep 2019

Next Sunday 22nd September, is the Thames Sailing Club Junior Regatta for under 16's. It's great that we've been able to have a fantastic year of youth training, and this is the culmination of the junior season.

Ben May is at the helm for this event and has organised a great afternoon of fun on the water. The start time for events will be 10am and we aim to finish on the water at about 4pm

There will be a prize giving and AGM regarding next years program after sailing

Please arrive at 10am to help rig the boats and to complete registration as we will want to begin promptly at 11am - but this will only be possible with enough help rigging...

The major part of the day will be spent playing fun games on the water followed by a quick series of short races at the end to compete for the historic TSC cadet trophy - the Cadet Paddle. Lunch will served in the club(weather permitting).

It would be great to see as many as possible of the graduates from this year's kids courses participating. We also want to extend the invitation to any other kids at the club to join in with the fun games and for each TSC cadet member to bring a friend with them if they wish - no sailing experience necessary however all participants need to be confident swimmers and all will be required to wear buoyancy aids (the club has a limited number available first come first served basis).

The participants will get wet so swimming togs are recommended, wetsuits are ideal and a change of clothes essential for afterwards.

Non-members will need to signed in by their parents as guests, and sign a disclaimer form at registration.

This event is being run entirely by members and the parents of kids who sail at the club. It only works if all parents help out and it is a requirement that all children have a parent present throughout the event.

We need volunteers to help out with the following activities: -

First aiders (current first aid qualification required

safety boat drivers (must have PB level 2 qualification)

rigging the boats at the start of the event and de-rigging at the end.

registration of non-member participants (in the morning)

helping out in the kitchen serving and clearing .

safety boat seconds.

harbourside staff (catching boats as they come in, fixing issues on boats)

Please let Ben May know at bencmay@googlemail.com or via the Whatsapp group pages if you are able to help with any specific roles - in particular the first aid cover and safety boat. It would also be useful to know in advance who is planning to attend so an RSVP from all TSC cadets is appreciated.

Hope to see you all next Sunday

Regards,

Matt Kyte

Vice Commodore
