About Hounslow Ganeshotsav Mandal
Dear Shree Ganesha Devotees,
We take great pleasure in inviting you to the Hounslow Ganeshotsav Mandal’s (HGM) 7th Lord Ganesh Festival Celebrations. The event has been surpassing new heights of festivity & fun each year. This was possible only thanks to the dedicated efforts of the HGM Committee Members & volunteers, blessings & the divine presence of thousands of devotees & supporters & not to forget the strong backing of our sponsors.
The birth of these celebrations took place in 2008 in a 3 bedroom house in West London. Few friends came together & decided to celebrate the birth of this favourite deity. What we thought was going to be a small gathering turned out to be a spiritual extravaganza. Instantly we realised, this has to be taken to the next level. We approached the local Hindu Temple & in the year 2009, HGM got a structure of an organisation & Laxmi Narayan Temple was now Bappa’s new abode. We were happy to accommodate thousands of devotees who thronged to the temple from as far as Isle of Man to be blessed by ‘Hounslow cha Raja’.
HGM is headed by founder, Mr Vaibhav Raorane & the operations of this community organisation are very well looked after by its versatile & talented committee members, Mr Mahesh Shetty, Ms Janhavi Kulkarni, Mr Shreyas Kale & Mr Nitin Parte. HGM is very much popular amongst the local community & the devotees eagerly look forward to this annual event with great zeal. Over the past few years, HGM has been contributing in its own way towards charitable events & causes both in UK & India.
This jubilant 2 Day Festival will commence with the auspicious ceremony of “Sthapana” (placing of Idol) at the Laxmi Narayan Temple, Hounslow Central, London TW3 4JG followed by “Aarti” (Prayers) on Friday 29th August from 9.15 am. Lord Ganesha’s Eco friendly idol has been sculpted by a reputed Artist Mr Surendra Rasal from Thane (India).
The lavish food & non-food stalls put up in the temple forecourt during these 2 days add a carnival atmosphere to this festive fun. Lots of extracurricular activities for all age groups starting from kids as young as 3 year old start from the afternoon on 29th August. Other programmes include Fancy Dressm Food, Singing / Dancing Competitions. These are the activities which moreover make this event a Family Affair.
The 2nd Day of the Festival is the most special visual delight with illustrious evening prayers & a procession, one of its kinds, involving a cavalcade of coaches & cars for the “Visarjan” (Immersion of Idol) in River Thames. This spectacular immersion achieved its due respect when it was rightly included by renowned novelist, Sir David Attenborough in his hour long documentary on Life around Thames River. Looking at the magnitude of ever increasing devotees every year, Richmond Council kindly allocated a bigger venue at The Chiswick Boat House (West London) in 2013. The venue for this year’s immersion will be announced by 25th Aug. A huge procession takes place every year under the eagle eyes of London MET Police from the Laxmi Narayan Temple to Asda (Hounslow Central) ala Mumbai style to the beats of live DJ. From Asda (Hounslow Central), everyone boards the coaches & proceed to River Thames to the immersion venue where the celebration continues.
We are confident of a larger turnout of devotees 2014 Celebrations as the festival culminates on the weekend. This celebration is a 2 day event & is frequented by thousands of people. It is well supported by Hounslow & Richmond Council & London MET Police. We put up a marquee for food as well as non-food stalls. Campaign material includes fliers & brochures & adverts in different media channels.
In its 7th year now, with the dawn of Friday 29th August, HGM would like to welcome you, family & friends to Ganeshotsav 2014. . We all pray for Ganapati Bappa’s blessings and continue to hope that His devotees from all over will join as one to celebrate…yet again.
Kindest Regards
