Merlin Report - 18 April

Published 19:41 on 19 Apr 2017

Sun shining and wind blowing F1-2 from the northeast, it was set to be a great Tuesday evening race. Four Merlin Rockets were in attendance Ben and Sel, Chris and Pip, Rob and Jenny and Alex and Rach our guests from Hampton.

The race got off to a flier with the majority sailing the 'conventional route' to the south and Chris and Pip taking a risk in beating to the North of Ravens Ait island which amazingly worked out well. However by the windward mark it had all got to pot and Rob and Jenny had sniggled past to take the lead.

The following lap saw Alex and Rach and Chris and Pip battling it out for second with Rob and Jenny some distance in the lead. But Alex's superior helming saw him take a great little lift along the Queen's Promenade to sail away and close in on Rob Jenny, with Chris and Pip starting to worry about whether Ben and Sel were next to overtake!

On the final lap Alex and Rach caught up with Rob and Jenny and at one time briefly overtook them. But Rob and Jenny kept their heads and fought off the rampaging Hamptonians to hold onto the lead to the finish without so much as a collision or sour word said (unlike other notable classes).

Results were:

1st Rob and Jenny

2nd Alex and Rach

3rd Chris and Pip

4th Ben and Sel

And what a great curry for tea! Thanks to the race box and rescue team and see you all next week!
