Minima Yacht Club and Thames Sailing Club
Inaugural Thames Topper Plastic Cup
Saturday 18th July 2015

On Saturday 18th July we're having a bit of fun with Minima playing around in our respective Topper boats. It's a lighthearted challenge between our two clubs to find out what's the fastest plastic on The Thames. We're hoping to field a couple of Omegas (at least) and Toppers so if you're interested in helming or crewing then please get in contact and book your place. Topper are getting involved as well and will be bringing a Xenon with them (and some prizes!) so we'll definitely have a great time. Post race there will be a BBQ at Minima starting at approximately 1830hrs so the more the merrier!

For More Information On Taking Part Please Contact: Matt or Jemma

NOTICE OF RACE

PURPOSE

The purpose of this fun event is to make and informal and unscientific comparison of the performance of the different Topper Classes on the non-tidal Thames. Helms are encouraged to swap boats between races in order to provide the best possible comparison, disregarding crew skill factor.

SAILING AREA

Between Kingston Bridge and Raven's Ait. Start and finish lines as defined in MYC Sailing Instructions.

ENTRY FEE

There will be no entry fee for this race.

RULES

The series will be governed by the current Racing Rules of Sailing, except as amended by MYC General Sailing Instructions eg re-rounding rather than one-turn for hitting a mark.

ELIGIBILITY

This event is designed for members of Thames SC and Minima YC sailing Topper class boats but is open to members of RYA affiliated clubs who sail Topper class boats. . Sailing Secretaries are asked to nominate the names of crews and the boats they will be sailing in advance in order to help plan the schedule of races.

SCHEDULE

The intention is to sail four short, back-to-back races 30 mins approx for:

  • Topper Double-handed Boats (Argo, Omega, Xenon)
  • Topper Single-handed Boats.

The two classes will have separate starts with the double-handed boats starting first. The single-handed class will start approximately 10 minutes later.

The first start will be no earlier than 14:30 hours and the last start will be no later than 17:30 hours.

Competitors and guest are invited to stay on for an informal barbecue and drinks on the balcony at Minima Yacht Club from 19:00 hours.

SCORING

The low point system of Appendix A will apply to produce overall winners in each class and prizes will be awarded depending on availability.

Handicap scoring will not be applied in the double-handed class. It is hoped that by swapping boats, a fair overall result can be achieved.
