Children's Sailing
As ever children are particularly welcome at Thames Sailing Club, whether it's for racing, fun Saturday social sailing, or to join in one of the training courses .
To enrol onto a training course, children need to be over 10 years of age and be independent swimmers. There are courses to suit all levels of ability. Our cadet captain is Daisy Tennent Thomas, who herself learned to sail at Thames Sailing Club and is now a capable dinghy and topper sailor. Please check the training pages for course descriptions and application forms.
Once of sufficient confidence and ability, children frequently participate in the club racing series by crewing the larger dinghies or sailing the toppers.
Children do not need to have their own boats or any particular piece of kit to participate. The only requirement is a buoyancy aid, some of which are available for loan from the clubhouse, and in any case are easily purchased from the various neighbouring marinas. Children will also need to have an accompanying adult at all times whilst on the premises.
Some of the most enjoyable days and events over the last year have been those which involved the younger section of the membership. The vibrant enthusiasm and speed with which they learn to sail, is a rewarding experience for them as well as the instructors and volunteers who have assisted.
We all look forward to meeting you, showing you around and hopefully sailing with you.
