Thames Sailing ClubWords by Nick Hoskins.
Last year TSC founded what was hoped would become an annual event. That was for the four local clubs – Tamesis, Minima, Hampton and TSC – to get together.
On Wed 4th June Hampton hosted this year’s event and invites were sent requesting the company of the committees of each club to attend. The principal objectives being to encourage each club to support the others at sailing events, to benefit from the experiences and practices of the other clubs and to do all of this in a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere.
TSC found itself a little embarrassed in that it was unaware of the invitation until 24 hours before the event. However, in true Thames style it was ably represented by Suzie Scotcher and Nick Hoskins.
As some will know, the Hampton Sailing Clubhouse is build on stilts out in the river and access is via a punt, driven and secured by a chain connected to the bank at one end and the island the other. A drive wheel pulls the chain and moves the punt across the water depending upon which way the wheel is turned. Rather quaint and quite fun.
The evening itself went well and there was generally a good turnout from the other clubs and plenty of opportunity to develop relationships and exchange views on various aspects of running a club.
A vote of thanks was proposed by Peter Mason, Commodore of Tammie, and supported by Dennis Lockwood, Commodore of Minima, and Nick Hoskins for TSC. Peter kindly offered to host the event next year at Tamesis and agreed to give all plenty of notice.
