Using the Pump On Cora - it's Childs Play!

TSC has had at least 2 rescue boats named Cora and this last has been around, it is believed for 25 to 30 years or so. She has provided faithful service and had a new engine some 10 – 15 years ago.

Whilst she has proved a reliable workhorse there has always been one complaint. Her engine is too noisy. Not any more. A new, sound-proofed engine cover has been built enclosing both the engine and the pump used to bale out capsized craft.not pumpingpumping

As Nat is kindly demonstrating in the photos the pump is now operated by a push/pull knob that is proud of the engine cover. Pulled up and in everyone’s way the pump is running and when running the hose must be in the water. When the knob is down the pump is off and no damage will occur to the pump’s impeller.

One important note. If it is necessary to take the top off the engine cover off please ensure that that it is slid from its position to the starboard side of the boat away from the knob. This will avoid damaging the push/pull rod.

The cover is made from hardwood decking so needs no maintenance and is built sturdily to provide extra seating. Soft cushions can be provided for a small fee!!

Thanks are due to Nick Hoskins for the update and for all the work he's put in Cora over the summer (ed)
