Thames Sailing Club has a range of exciting courses for everyone who wants to improve their sailing, and for those who want to improve with all possible speed! What we actually manage to teach depends on the experience and needs of the people who enrol, but broadly speaking, we usually get a group for each of the following courses:
Adult Improvers
This course is aimed at all those people who have had some practice since their Level Two course, and are keen to get some tips on improving their sailing and their racing. We intend to teach this course in your own boat, ie Merlin, Enterprise or Firefly, to help you master its own characteristics, eg the spinnaker if carried. The TSC Leaders may be available for people without their own boat yet.
Teenage Improvers
The young people are taught in their own or borrowed Toppers, and we hope to deliver more advanced skills, more racing and more fun in general. We hope to prepare you to compete at Bourne End, which is the most exciting thing of all.
Adult Beginners
This course is taught using the club Wayfarers which are larger and very stable boats. If you know of someone who would enjoy learning to sail at our unique price and unique venue, and who wants to become a member, please introduce them to David Lowrie, Sue Williams or Sally Reed as soon as possible.
Child Beginners
Children must be over ten, and should be robust to learn to sail so early in the year. We will probably use Oppies, but if the weather is difficult, hope to have a crewed boat available. Smaller and more timid children are welcomed on to our course at the end of the Summer Holidays, when the water is warmer, the wind is less scary and the Toppers may be available! All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian while they are on the Thames Training Courses
