2006 Rater Season
Bourne End 27th to 31st June
Despite the unseasonable bad weather, the week was a great success. 14 Rater’s took part, 2 up on the average for the past 5 years. The condition of the fleet continues to improve. This year “Scamp” was back on the water after a long period in the shed. Her annual maintenance budget was increased to include a new carbon mast. “Lady Jane” was sporting new varnished timber decks after a winter refit.
It was good to see a lot of new people in the fleet this year plus our more experienced members. On the Sunday “Carina” was sailed by Sam Christie, Sara and Justin (Average age 20). “Lady Iona” was sailed by our Commodore, Brian Hepburn, Stuart and Martin (Average age 71).
Results.
Thames Championship: “Osprey”. Paul Browning, Justin and Graham.
Queen’s Cup: “Spindrift” Martin Hunter, Jeremy and Chris.
China Bowl 24th/25th June
8 Rater’s came to the line for this new format event of 6 races comprising 3 back to backs on Saturday afternoon with a further 3 on Sunday morning. The weather, though light and testing for the sailing, proved ideal for the Summer Party on the Saturday night!

Braganca Bowl at Tamesis 16/17 September
The "Braganca Bowl" and The "Yates Cup" were won this week-end by Spindrift, sailed by Martin Hunter,Jeremy Kearns,Chris Downham and Andrew Harris.They counted 5 first places out of this 6 race series. The racing was very testing in the light airs over the two days.
Tamesis organised a great regatta with 3 races on the Saturday starting at 14:30 and completing a further 3 by lunchtime on the Sunday. Our thanks to them and particularly their sailing secretary Richard Morant and Clive.
The well attended dinner on the Saturday evening at the Angel Thames Ditton went down well and our thanks to Jeanette and her staff.
Overall results 1st. Spindrift, 2nd Osprey, 3rd Scamp, 4th Ulva, 5th Lady Iona, 6th Carina, 7th Caprice, 8th Lady Jane, 9th Vanessa.
