Summer Training Session 26th-30th August - A Call for help!

TSC Summer Training starts on 26th August, so this is a good time to remind members of the many tasks that go towards running the RYA training courses, and that we are always on the lookout for an extra hand.

COURSE PREPARATION

Michael has been getting the safety boats ready, so they are really reliable and this is wonderful. Ian has called a mini work-party on Sunday 17th August to run over all the club boats and equipment and we would ask all members coming down to sail to stay a bit longer to lend a hand. We really need to have someone check over the Toppers in the same way, so we know they can all be used without having to hunt for lost parts, or repair leaks during teaching time.

VOLUNTEERS URGENTLY REQUIRED!

For TSC Boat Maintenance Day From 10:00am Sunday 20th August 2006

Aim to ready the Club fleet for the August training course

Tasks - Cleaning / repairs / routine maintenance / sail sorting / buoyancy testing

Things to bring - Sponge-Scourer / bucket / tool kit / sailing kit

Please contact Ian Pratt (0775 1331308) if you are able to help for all or part of the day.

HELP NEEDED DURING THE COURSE

SAFETY BOATS
Safety boats need manpower too! Our Commodore Brian Hepburn diligently volunteers each day to assist, but other helpers are most welcome to join in, and give Brian a breather!

PAPERWORK
Sue Williams has volunteered to check everybody's paperwork on the first day, but it would be great if someone else could help with the paperwork on the last afternoon.

IN THE GALLEY
Latsi is being employed to do bacon/sausage sarnies/lunch on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, but please can one of the parents volunteer to do the same for Tuesday and/or Wednesday, so that teaching, rescue or bosun staff do not have to stop what they are doing to do it. Shared food is a part of the club experience we want our students to learn to enjoy.

CLEANING UP
Training courses put a lot of extra wear and tear onto parts of the club. The kitchen and changing rooms are busier and used for more consecutive days than at any other time, and of course we would like them to be immaculate.
With Kim on maternity leave still, it would be great to have a volunteer or two to clean up on the day before the course, and at the end of each day? Past students will understand the need! It may seem thankless, but it is really appreciated.

ASSISTANT INSTRUCTORS
Finally, the best volunteers we could get, would be people prepared to take up the offer of free training to Assistant Instructor level or Powerboat Level 2, and join the team. It is enormously rewarding enabling people to sail for the first time, and the bigger the team, the less the strain, and the better the chance of TSC being able to continue the good work.

All the little preparatory jobs are ones which David, Brian or Sally have done in the days prior to previous courses, but this year they have been unable to keep the week (or even the day) before the course free, so it would be wonderful for them to arrive on Friday night, and find everything ready!

If you can help out with any of these jobs please let David Lowrie know so your name and the task can be added to the volunteer matrix.

Also, if you know anyone who is on the course, please ask them to send in their fees and application form to David Lowrie david.lowrie@bt.com before the start of the course

Stolen Boat

The orange dinghy (Dory size), a Jeaneau 360, which was on loan from Island Barn SC to assist our last training course, has had its securing wire cut and was stolen during the week ending the 16th July.

It had ‘Alexis’ on the transom and ‘Island Barn SC’ on each side. The engine was a Honda BF15AAL circa 1995.

Could everyone please keep their eyes open for it and advise Alexis (07732-325813) or Nick Hoskins (01372 272447) if it is spotted. Many thanks.

Nick
