Thames Sailing ClubAs of Today 16th January the Tuesday suppers are back. The first of the new year will be chicken curry! Booking can be made by email or phone (details on the Tuesday supper webpage under social events)
The following Tuesday 23rd of Jan will have Burn’s night theme with haggis, neaps and tatties. Dig out your tarten and come and have a fling! Richard will need a clear idea of numbers so please ensure that you pre-book in good time.
If you're at the club working at the club, want something hot to warm you up after a session at Island Barn, or just fancy social chat and a hot snack, Negla and others are making soup every Sunday. If you want to volunteer to help make the soup one Sunday, just let Negla know.
All members who have been or are currently active in the club will recognize the perennial problem of filling posts and finding volunteers for jobs. To kick-off an initiative to reconsider how we increase voluntary participation, Sally Reed has asked Jackie Bennett, the volunteer liaison officer of the RYA, to present to the TSC the current thinking and experience of the RYA and other member clubs of the RYA. This presentation will be given on the 6th Feb and is open to anyone who is concerned that the pool of volunteers we have is not large enough and feel that we need to find ways to attract and retain the services of new blood and make volunteer roles pleasurable not onerous. Jackie intends to explode myths, challenge pre-conceptions and inspire creative thinking.
To maintain the impetus on Tuesday 20th there will be a structured workshop session facilitated by Ben to explore how challenges raised in the presentation apply to the TSC and how the techniques suggested can be used to enhance the volunteer experience at the TSC.
